Delta Railroad Services is an Ohio-based railroad construction, founded in 1957 by Cosmo Anthony Laurello (1908-1979). We started as a small railroad construction business and have expanded to be one of the top tier railroad construction companies in North America. Delta has been in the industry for over 60 years, focusing exclusively on track construction, repair, and maintenance, serving the continental United States and Canada.
We also own a Maintenance Of Way (MOW) equipment remanufacturing division (Quality Track Equipment/QTE) which is ISO Certified, and a Flash-Butt Welding Division.
Our offices are located in Ashtabula and Austinburg, and have satellite office capacity wherever our Joint-Venture projects are located in different states such as Illinois, Minnesota, New York, and Maryland.
In 2020, Delta Railroad was 90%-acquired Salcef Group. Under the Salcef Group, our company designation is Delta Railroad Construction Inc., the Delta Group holding company.

Position Description

Assist to control, reconcile, and maintain general ledger accounts. Preparing Journal Voucher for the Controller who shall approve and post in the ERP system. Assist in the preparation of the monthly forecast and periodical budgets. Assist in the Month-end closing.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Assist in preparation of monthly, quarterly and yearly financial reports.
  • Assisting Financial Managers with budgeting
  • Ensuring all accounting practices are in compliance with legal guidelines and established accounting principles.
  • Assisting with billing and tax documentation preparation
  • Working with the company financial team to create internal controls and policies.
  • Collaborating with the IT department to maintain financial records and system processes.
  • Identifying solutions to discrepancies in financial records.
  • Preparing general ledger and job cost entries, including Fixed Assets Monthly Depreciation, monthly accruals, insurance premium allocation, taxes, financing amortization.
  • Maintain and reconcile balance sheet accounts including (clients, vendors, prepaids, accruals, payroll taxes, inventories, and fixed assets).
  • Coordinate with the Fleet Dept. the recording of newly acquired vehicles and equipment and the handling and recording of disposed equipment and vehicles.
  • Assure that the fixed assets registered in the accounting are consistent with the fixed assets inventory maintained by the Fleet Dpt.
  • Coordinate with the HR department for the monthly closure and ensure that the payroll is correctly posted in the accounting.
  • Coordinate with the project control department and ensure that the costs are correctly allocated to the projects.
  • On a monthly basis assist in preparing the report for variances analysis between the forecast and the actual costs.
  • Assure that the Inter-Company transactions are promptly registered and monthly reconciled in the accounting.
  • Assist in the Treasury department for the monthly Bank reconciliations.
  • Assist the Treasury department in the weekly reporting.
  • Assist the CFO in the preparation of Cashflow for each single project and for the entire entity.
  • Assist the Controller and the CFO in the preparation of tax declarations.
  • Any other duties as assigned.

Position Requirements

SKILL REQUIREMENTS:
  • Expert knowledge of accounting and financial principles, regulations and best practices
  • Excellent understanding of governmental guidelines, tax laws that affect the company
  • Highly organized with keen attention to detail
  • Proficient with data analysis, critical thinking and problem-solving
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Proficient in basic office and accounting software programs
  • Collaboration and teamwork skills
  • Knowledge of Budgeting and Cashflow forecast.
  • Knowledge of Project Control principles.

WORK EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

  • 2 or 3 years of experience in accounting (preferrable)

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Degree in Accounting/Business Administration.
